Below is a list of Training SESSIONS AND WORKSHOPS OFFERED BY THE A-STATE PBIS RESOURCE CENTER.

Training Courses and Topics

Tier I PBIS Tier 1 Leadership and Readiness
Who Should Attend?  district & building administrators, school leadership team members, and representative staff from schools interested in learning about PBIS training and implementation.

What is it?  An overview of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS).  Guidelines, processes, and timelines for implementing PBIS in schools and districts will be discussed.

Participants will learn:

  • How to build commitment in the school/district for implementation
  • How to plan for team training and implementation
Tier I PBIS Tier I Team Training
This 4-part training series is intended for school teams beginning the PBIS Tier I implementation process. The series will guide teams through the entire process, from developing behavior expectations through kicking off PBIS school-wide. This training is designed for a team (e.g., a group of 4 to 8 participants).

  • Session 1: Leadership, defining behavior expectations, building behavior matrices
  • Session 2: Teaching and acknowledging appropriate behavior, PBIS in the Classroom
  • Session 3: Responding to inappropriate behavior, using data for decision making
  • Session 4: Kicking off PBIS, ongoing support, continuous improvement
Tiers I, II, & III Coaching in PBIS
Participants will learn what it means to be a PBIS Coach, including an in-depth look at the following:

  • The coach’s role and responsibilities
  • Effective team meetings
  • Effectively planning a PBIS yearly calendar
  • Resources and networking for coaches
Tier I PBIS in the Classroom
Participants will learn how to use PBIS with fidelity in their classrooms, including:

  • How to build classroom practices that will enhance student achievement
  • How to effectively collect classroom data to increase instructional and engagement opportunities in the classroom
  • How to identify and provide technical assistance to teachers in need of support
Tier 1 Data-Based Decision Making
This training will take participants through the process of collecting and using school-wide discipline and other data on a regular basis to make informed decisions.  Participants will also learn…

  • How to differentiate between Minor Behaviors and Major Behaviors
  • How to work through solution development and action planning around precise problem statements.
Tiers I, II, & III Culturally Responsive Practices & PBIS
Participants will learn how to integrate culturally responsive practices with PBIS. The training will answer the following questions:

  • What does it mean to be “culturally responsive”?
  • How do culturally responsive classrooms help engage learners?
  • What are specific strategies teachers can use to make their classrooms culturally responsive?
Tiers I, II, & III Trauma Informed Practices in PBIS
Participants will learn how to incorporate trauma-informed practices within their PBIS framework. The training will cover the following topics:

  • An overview of how trauma impacts students academically and behaviorally
  • Trauma-informed practices that can be integrated into the PBIS framework to create a safe and supportive school environment for students with Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Trauma-informed classroom strategies teachers can use to de-escalate problem behaviors
Tiers I, II, & III Effective Classroom Practices
This training is designed to give teachers classroom strategies they can learn today and begin implementing tomorrow.

  • Creating a physical layout that aids the teacher in active supervision
  • Ensuring that students know what is expected of them
  • Designing instruction that keeps students engaged
  • Instilling a sense of belonging in every student
Tiers I, II, & III PBIS Assessment & Evaluation
How do you know if PBIS is “working”? This training highlights the importance of conducting regular evaluation to ensure fidelity when implementing each tier of PBIS and provides implementers with information on PBIS assessment tools.

  • How to select and use data to monitor progress when implementing PBIS
  • How to use free assessment tools available through PBIS Applications
  • How to use data obtained from regular evaluation for effective action planning

Tier I Workshop: PBIS Sharing & Planning Day
Join us for this fun event to share your successes, challenges, and ideas with other PBIS school teams, and then spend some team time planning for the 2021-2022 school year.  Participating teams will be asked to share a brief presentation highlighting the Glows and Grows from their PBIS implementation during the 2020-2021 school year.
