Supporting PBIS Implementation
Welcome to the Arkansas PBIS Training Modules. The development of these modules was funded through the Arkansas State Personnel Development Grant. The modules were developed in collaboration with PBIS trainers and consultants from the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at Arkansas State University and content specialists from the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Why were these training modules developed?
The Arkansas PBIS Training Modules were developed to support districts and schools in Arkansas that are interested in PBIS or are currently in the process of PBIS implementation. Although in-person training with CCE PBIS trainers is ideal, it is not always possible.
How should the training modules be used?
The PBIS framework consists of some major components, with 3 tiers of support. The modules contain information on how to build these components. New implementers should begin with the Tier I modules.
The modules can serve multiple purposes:
- Exploration and readiness: administrators and other school personnel can find out more about each tier of PBIS and how to prepare for implementation
- Initial training (each tier): after exploring, determining readiness, and securing a group commitment, school teams can begin the implementation process
- Training of trainers and coaches: districts and schools can ensure sustainability by increasing local fluency in PBIS implementation
- Booster training: after implementing PBIS, districts and schools can use the modules as go-to resources for strengthening implementation at each tier
What materials are included with each training module?
PowerPoint presentations: ready-made presentations, complete with trainer notes; can be used as-is with the flexibility of adding local context
Facilitator’s Guides: additional detailed notes (slide by slide), resources, activity suggestions, handouts, homework suggestions, and general information for preparing to present the module
What is the significance of the module numbers within each tier? Do they need to be used in that order?
For each tier, the first 2 or 3 modules will contain content on philosophy, readiness, and leadership. These are important for districts and schools in the exploration stage. The facilitator guides that accompany each of the modules contain suggested pre-requisites and suggestions for which module to explore next. Typically, a live training would follow the order of each tier of modules.
In the Tier I modules, in addition to the major components, there are modules on special topics that will help schools improve and enrich their implementation of PBIS. Some of these modules (e.g., Staff Ownership) do not have pre- or post- suggestions, as they are supplemental in nature.
